Year 6 had a great day on Thursday for World Book Day! We were massively impressed with the children’s efforts and their outfits were incredible! After arriving through the wall at Platform 9 ¾ , the children were greeted by Professor Dumbledore (Mrs Thackway) to begin the day’s activities at Hogwarts. Unbelievably, many of the year 6 children had not read or watched any of the Harry Potter films, so it was a must to start by reading the first chapter of The Philosopher’s Stone! Following this, they watched a short clip from the film where Harry gets placed into his house team, Gryffindor! The children took it in turns to reveal a name from behind the sorting hat which magically appeared from nowhere! Gryffindor was strongly desired by some Harry Potter addicts (Lilly and Chanel) who were releaved to make it into their favourite house. Thankfully, the Slytherin members didn’t live up to their dark reputation; Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were happy enough to be housed!

Year 6 then scanned QR codes to be directed straight to the Harry Potter name generator. After typing in their name, a new Harry Potter style name was revealed. Using quills and ink, the children used calligraphy style writing to create a label to display their new name for the day. Some of our favourites were: Lilly Malfoy, Arsenius MacNair and Livius Grunnion!
With their new names in tow, the children tested their wizardly abilities and made Exploding Polyjuice Potion! Check out the ingredients they used!

Inspired by the Exploding Polyjuice Potion, the children created their own magical potions. Let’s just say I wouldn’t like to upset one of these witches and wizards with an armed wand!

All in all, we had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day inspired by a truly magical series of stories by JK Rowling! All that’s left to do now is to inspire Year 6 to get reading some more of these fabulous Harry Potter stories. Get reading Year 6!
