Welcome to Year 5 Lionfish
Welcome to Year 5!
I’m Mrs Thackway, the Year 5 class teacher, and I’m delighted to be teaching your children this year. Year 5 is an exciting stage in their learning journey, and I look forward to supporting and encouraging every child as they grow in confidence, develop their independence and achieve their full potential.
Below, you’ll find our class timetable and some helpful reminders to support your child throughout the week. I’m looking forward to working in partnership with you and making this a happy, successful and memorable year for everyone!

On this page you will find information about the weekly timetable, the topics we will be covering each half term and any other key information you may need. The links below will take you to the Year 5 newsletters and curriculum overviews for each term.

Homework
Homework will be set each week to reinforce the learning taking place in class. It will be sent home on a Friday. Children are expected to practise their weekly spellings using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method, complete the related handwriting activity, a reading comprehension task and one or two pages from their maths workbook, as directed by the class teacher. Children should also read at home every day, with an adult signing their reading record regularly. Please encourage your child to complete their homework carefully, neatly and to the best of their ability, and return it to school by Thursday.
- Spelling Record Book: Weekly spellings should be practised using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method.
- Handwriting: Handwriting practice linked to the weekly spellings.
- Reading Comprehension: One reading comprehension activity.
- Maths Workbook: One or two pages will be set each week, based on the teacher’s professional judgement.
- Daily Reading: Children should read at home every day and have their reading record signed by an adult.
