Welcome to Year 6 Oyster!
Hello and welcome to the webpage for Year 6 Oyster. My name is Miss Gavin and I am the class teacher. Year 6 can be a challenging year, but we will be supporting the children throughout the year to work towards their potential. There will be lots of exciting moments and new experiences along the way. We want each child to enjoy their final year of primary school and feel ready and equipped with skills to take them into high school.

Homework
All children need to read at home every night and should bring their reading book into school each day. In the pupil planners, there are ideas for things to talk about and questions to ask your children about their reading.
Whenever possible, please help your child to practise their weekly times tables and spellings. Testing them at home will help cement their learning of spelling rules and improve their recall speed of multiplication facts.
In Year 6, children are not expected to do Timestable Rockstars for homework, however we encourage children to still access this when possible.
Children are also expected to complete spellings, handwriting, comprehension and maths work every week.
Statutory Assessments
The 2026-27 Key Stage 2 SATs will take place in the week commencing 10th May 2027. The tests will take place over four days. Children in Year 6 (those aged 10-11) will take these tests. Further information regarding this can be found in our parent guide below.

We believe our curriculum empowers our pupils to access and develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions to enable them to become well-rounded citizens who take with them a life-long love of learning.
