Year 3

Year 3 listened to the Greek myth called Daedalus and Icarus. We thought carefully about how Icarus had a set of wings made from feathers and melted wax. We thought carefully about which materials were suitable or not to make wings out of. We designed, created and evaluated our own set of wings.…

Year 3 looked at Greek artefacts and investigated the colours and patterns which were very common. We used this as inspiration for our own Greek vases. We designed and made our own Greek vases, thinking carefully about what pictures and patterns we could use. 

Year 3 took part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. Pupils made their own birdfeeders to hang up round school and in their own gardens at home. We went out and watched to see how many birds we could spot! Miss Riaz will feedback our results to the RSPB. 

This week in English we have been learning about Greek Myths. We really enjoyed listening to the myth about Theseus and Minotaur! We ordered the events from the myth and used our key vocabulary to perform it for our peers! We have some great actors and actresses in our class! 

Year 3 celebrated and found out about Islam on World Religion Day. We tried eating traditional sweets, which is a way Muslims usually begin Eid celebrations. The children really enjoyed dressing up in traditional Muslim clothes and looking at how the 'wudu' (the washing before prayer) is…

We found out that the Ancient Greeks were the first to host the Olympics! We decided to follow a set of instructions to create our own rosettes! Look how fabulous they look!

Year 3 Seahorses have been looking at instructions this week so they were put to the test when they were asked to follow a recipe to create a greek tzatziki! The children had much fun and got to taste their own creations!

Year 3 have been researching famous Greeks by effectively using search engines this week. We reported our findings by creating a Greek FamousBook Page! We found out some very interesting facts!

Year 3 have been finding out lots about volcanoes as part of their Geography based topic, Tremors. They researched the Earth's layers and found out how and why volcanoes erupt. We developed our map skills by locating the world's most famous volcanoes. 

Year 3 Seahorses performed their anti-bullying themed assembly to the whole school and their parents. There was excellent speaking skills being displayed and I think everyone enjoyed their performance! Well done Year 3. 

A key 'value' we found out about today was confidence. We are working at building up our self-confidence with speaking out and presenting to the class. This is a key part of our English curriculum and something we will be focusing on this year. The children all presented their amazing volcano…
