During Autumn 1, our topic was called Marvellous Middleton and as I am sure you can guess, we were finding out all about the amazing place where we live. Middleton has such a rich history with so many significant places and people who have lived here. One such person is Edgar Wood.

Edgar Wood was a very famous architect, born in 1860. There are many famous buildings which have been designed by Edgar Wood all over our local area. We were lucky to have a guided tour of some of these places by the Edgar Wood Society. These places can be easily identified by the green badge placed outside these very important buildings. We went on a trip of our local area which was part of our memorable experience. This trip really helped to kick start our topic. We visited many places and found out key facts about these buildings.

We visited Parish Church which was a building highly influenced by Edgar Wood. This church was over 900 years old and has been refurbished many times. We had a guided tour and had the opportunity to go on a treasure hunt, locating famous pictures and artefacts within the church.

After our visit we were very lucky to visit the Arts and Crafts Church also known as Long Street Methodist Church. We were warmly greeted by members of the Edgar Wood Society who talked us through the amazing architecture we could see. We really had a fantastic morning and would like to thank the Edgar Wood Society for their fantastic input. Our pupils absolutely loved the whole experience!
