Our First Term in Reception!

We have had lots of fun in Reception this half term. We have been making lots of new friends, learning the school rules and exploring and learning through our play. Our topic this term has been superhero world and we have been learning all about the superheroes we know. We thought about who is important to us in our family and how the people in our families help us.
Then we learnt about how police officers help us. We dressed up as police officers and thought about all the different jobs that they do. We learnt how the police catch criminals using finger prints and we looked at our own finger prints. We also made our own police car!
     
In maths we practised our counting by putting the right number of baddies in the numbered police cars.
Then we started learning about the superheroes in the fire service and we had a special visit from Heywood Fire Station. They showed us all the special equipment they have to wear and then we looked at all the equipment on the fire engine. The most exciting part was when we all had a turn using the fire hose!
     
      
After the fire engine visit we enjoyed making our own fire engines.
   
During this term we have read lots of superhero books and one of our favourites was Supertato! During our learning we acted out the story with our own hero vegetables and we also made our own 'Super Veggies' shown below!
      
   
We also went on some superhero training to help defeat the ‘Evil Pea!’
      
In English this half term we have been working hard to hear the initial sound in words and trying to write some letters and simple words. We have also enjoyed looking at books and retelling them in our own words.

In maths we have been learning all about numbers. We have been counting lots of different objects and actions and learning to recognise numbers. We have also been trying to order numbers.
      
   
Whilst learning about shapes we went on a shape hunt and we are starting to recognise shapes in the world around us.
      

Our First Trip

This half term we also went on our first trip to Hopwood woods to look for signs of Autumn. We found lots of autumn leaves and then took them back to school to make some autumn art work with our parents.
