Reception have been very busy this half term. We welcomed all the new children and their families into our school in September. The children had already had the chance to visit their new school, therefore they all settled very quickly.
Superhero World
Our first topic is all about superheroes. We started the topic looking at our own families and who helps us around school. We moved on to learning all about the Police.
We looked at what police officers do and how they help people. We had lots of activities relating to the police around the classroom and the children enjoyed learning all about them. We talked about the police dogs and how they help. The children especially enjoyed arresting their friends in their imaginative play.
Firefighters
In week 5 we were very lucky to get a visit from the firefighters. They showed us what they had to wear and explained why they needed to wear it. We looked at all their equipmet on the fire engine and even got the chance to squirt the hose, it was a good job nobody got wet!
The firefighters even let us climb onto their fire engine!
We had lots of fire fighter activities to complete and even made our own fire engines.
Autumn
To end our first half term at school we looked at the season of Autumn. We read the story 'Ouch!' and talked about why hedgehogs have to hibernate during the winter months. We looked at the changes around us. All parents were invited on our Autumn walk to Hopwood Woods. We had a great time and we used the leaves we had collected to make crafts back at school afterwards.
