Year 3 went to visit our local church, St Leonard's. It was a great experience for the children. During lessons they had been learning about churches, the layout and all the different special places within the church. When they went on their visit they were able to spot all the different things that they had learnt as well as to gain more knowledge about churches. This church is amazing as it dates back prior to the Tudor times, also it has its roots firmly in the history of Middleton. Ask your children why our school is called Boarshaw primary if you don’t know already. Mrs Slim was an excellent guide and explained to the children how the church was laid out and why. They were taken to see the font and the altar. The children discussed the stained glass windows and spotted different things on the ceilings. This building is a Grade 1 listed and is well worth a visit. Your own child can be your excellent guide on its history.
