The children set off on World Book Day exploring the school trying to find Wally amongst the classrooms, corridors and library. The children, who gathered the most Wallies on their hunt, gained points for their team. They then came back to class to discuss their favourite books; where they liked to read them and when they found it most enjoyable to read.
Year 6 went on to discover if they could really survive an air raid, they were asked to ‘Beat the Blitz’ when reading their Horrible Histories book the Blitzed Brits. If bombs were to fall would they run home, stand still (and cross their fingers) or lie down where they were. Their air raiding skills were certainly put to the test.
If they had survived, they were then able to create their own poster warning people about the Blitz. Some children were extremely patriotic: making sure to put their fellow Brits first. Whilst others wished to put forward a message of safety and protection first.
The children ended their World Book Day by creating a comic strip based upon their favourite books. Some children choose to write about Wonder and Skellig because they loved reading these whole class texts in lesson time. Finally, Year 6 were able to make an ultimate story book character. They identified the best features of their favourite characters and merged them together to create a super book character.
