This half term we have started our new topic, Urban Pioneers and exploring about light and dark. The children have been finding out about a range of light sources and how the moon is not a light source. They also explored how shadows are made. Thankfully we managed to get a sunny day which was ideal for making shadows. The children had to draw their partners shadow and discuss how the shadow was made as their body had blocked the light. We returned to the playground an hour later and the children had to stand on their original spot. They were very surprised to see that they could not make the same shadow again. We then discussed that this was due to the sun moving and so the shadow had changed direction. It was all very interesting. We are continuing to work on shadows and explore how they change size. They will be experts on shadows before very long.
